Who wants to be able to enjoy a MILKSHAKE anytime of the day? Yep…even for breakfast.
Meet my new favorite easy Strawberry Milkshake Recipe! This recipe is very thick and creamy similar to traditional milkshakes, except that THIS one all vegan and much healthier! It’s perfect for breakfast, snack-time, or dessert, and makes for the perfect healthy and easy vegan Valentine’s Day treat!
What Makes This Strawberry Milkshake Recipe Healthy?
Refined-Sugar Free
Traditional milkshakes are made with ice cream.
Instead, this strawberry milkshake recipe gets its sweetness from the use of freshly frozen strawberries and bananas. Using frozen fruit also gives this vegan milkshake that thick and creamy ice-cream like texture.
Hemp Seeds
Hemp seeds provide a great source of nutrients and contain the following:
- Complete source of protein and contain all the essential amino acids
- Fiber
- Essential fatty acids
- Potassium
- Minerals & Vitamins
I love getting my nutrients from a variety of different sources and therefore try to incorporate hemp seeds in my meals every week. I love sprinkling it on things like salads, breakfast toasts, protein bowls, pasta, and blending it into smoothies.
A few years back I enjoyed different blender nice-creams with added hemp seeds, so knew that they’d also taste great and add a certain creaminess when blended up into simple drinks, such as this easy strawberry milkshake recipe!
How To Make This Vegan Milkshake Recipe – Step by Step
You can easily make this healthy strawberry milkshake recipe with your kids with just 5 simple ingredients:
- frozen strawberries
- frozen bananas
- hemp seeds
- non-dairy milk
- vanilla extract
Blending frozen fruit along with hemp seeds gives this recipe that ultra thick, rich, and creamy texture. But you can just as easily add fresh fruit and a few ice cubes if you’re running short on time.
To make this fun pink vegan drink, simply blend all 5 ingredients and enjoy…that’s it!
If your kids are anything like mine, they’re hungry as soon as they come home from school. Instead of their typical green smoothie or almond milk, surprise them with this Strawberry Milkshake Recipe! They’ll not only love you for it, but they’ll be full and fueled for the rest of the afternoon! This is the part where I secretly have a grin on my face, knowing how many hemp seeds are in one glass.
Even my husband, who’s always loved traditional milkshakes, loves this recipe.
This milkshake is vegan, free of refined sugar, and even contains protein! So drink away to your heart’s desire!
It’s pretty pink color also makes for the perfect healthy vegan Valentine’s Day treat!

Strawberry Hemp Milkshake
INGREDIENTS
- 10 strawberries , frozen
- 1 large ripe banana , frozen
- 3/4 - 1 cup unsweetened almond milk , SILK brand, or any other non-dairy milk (use more or less depending on desired level of thickness)
- 3/4 cup hemp seeds , shelled (hemp hearts)
- 1/2 teasp vanilla extract
INSTRUCTIONS
- Allow the frozen strawberries and frozen banana to thaw at room temperature for about 5 minutes.
- Place all the ingredients in a powerful blender (I used my Vitamix). Use between 3/4 cup to 1 cup of the non-dairy milk depending on how thick you want your milkshake to be (I used 1 cup).
- Completely blend all the ingredients. Use a temper to push down the contents of the blender to help the blending process. The resulting milkshake should be thick and creamy.
- Pour the strawberry hemp milkshake into 3 or 4 glasses, garnish each glass with a strawberry, and enjoy!

Thank you Reshana! It tastes just as great as it looks =) It was fun photographing this recipe, although my kids were anxiously waiting to devour it!
Rashmi
Wow Anjali, this looks fabulous, lovely pictures and BIG thumbs up to you for presentation…on point 🙂

Thank you!!! I loved the strawberry color for this post! I typically don’t have much time to style my photographs, so means a lot to have you say that!

Will it taste ok if I add a cup of spinach?
anjali
Yes absolutely! Our typical afternoon drinks are green smoothies made with some liquid base, loads of spinach, and frozen fruit so this milkshake would work well with 1 cup of spinach. You MAY need the entire 1 cup (or slightly more) of liquid but try it out and let me know!

If I didn’t just use the last of our strawberries, I’d be making this right now. What a beautiful color!! I know Willow will love this because pink smoothies are her favorite. I love how simple the ingredient list is. Looks delicious!
anjali
Thanks Mandy! It was a fun treat to surprise the kids with after school, and the addition of hemp seeds gets some protein in there! With strawberry season almost over, I need to freeze a few more bags for this milkshake! Willow will love the color…I actually didn’t enhance it while editing, it really is that pink! Once I cut glasses of dairy milk out of my kids diet, I had to get them used to almond/cashew/soy milk. My son converted right away, but my daughter is taking longer, so every now and then I make these smoothies to get that calcium in. =)

I love the creaminess hemp seeds give to shakes and smoothies! It looks delicious :O)
anjali
Thanks Mel! I love tossing hemp seeds into everything, and the kids love this milkshake.

Beautiful combo! So sweet creamy and “nutty”! Love hemp seeds!
anjali
Thanks Rebecca!! One of my kids favorite shakes!
Donna
Ooh yum, my kids would be so excited if I surprised them with a strawberry milkshake! They love their green smoothies after nap time, but I am sure pink anything would be more exciting 🙂 I never thought to add so may hemp seeds either, I always add a couple of tbsp, but I bet it tastes even better with 3/4 cup – yum!!
anjali
Thanks Donna! Yes, my kids also LOVE their green smoothies after naps, but they were pleasantly surprised with this pink one =) plus, when you add the word milkshake and make it taste like a milkshake, it’s always a nice treat! I typically only add 1-2 tbsp of hemp seeds in my smoothies, but this is the first time i did 3/4 cup and we loved it!

I never bought hemp! I think it’s about time I do that. Just too much goodness I’m missing out on obviously 😀
anjali
It’s DEFINITELY time you buy some hemp seeds! =) I typically get the huge bag from costco to use in everything. Smoothies, sprinkle some in my oatmeal, on my morning PB/Banana toast…really anywhere I can think of. It’s pretty neutral in taste, although I add quite a bit to this strawberry hemp milkshake. It’s great!
Vanessa Croessmann
What a wonderful idea to put hemp seeds in a milkshake. I’ve usually only used them sprinkled on salads or in baked goods like muffins. I’ll have to start adding them to milkshakes and smoothies like you did here. Looks great and super delicious!
anjali
Thanks Vanessa! I add them to my milkshakes and smoothies all the time, but this recipe is the first where I’ve added so much and we love it!
Jacqueline Meldrum
I use hemp powder in my smoothies, but I’ve never tried seeds. I must look out for them. This is one beautiful smoothie.
anjali
I’ve only ever used hemp seeds…I get the large bag from costco and sprinkle them on everything!

Love the use of hemp seeds here!

I believe your calorie count is way off on this smoothie, the hemp seeds alone have 2040 calories, about 80 for the banana, 20 for the berries, 25 at least for the lowest count silk milk equals about 21 65 divided by 4 equals 541
anjali
3/4 cup hemp seeds do not have 2040 calories. It’s about 500-650 calorie range total. I checked on both my nutrition information calculator and verified with the nutrition label on the back of my hemp seeds bag.
anjali
Also, may I ask why you gave it 3/5 star rating? Did you try and not like the recipe?
